Core Construction approached Clearwing with specific renovation needs for the Marroney Theatre on The University of Arizona campus, focusing initially on replacing the fire curtain and reconfiguring the front of house area which had become unusable.
Clearwing proposed a custom line shaft hoist to solve the front lighting challenge. As discussions progressed, the scope of work expanded to include moving ETC dimmer racks, upgrading the lighting network, adding a Paradigm architectural control system, and altering the emergency lighting system. For the winch, Clearwing contracted Texas Scenic to manufacture the equipment along with the control system, which was to be installed by Clearwing technicians. Texas Scenic also supplied components for the upgraded fire curtain rigging system to raise and lower the Thermotex curtain.
The University Theatre Department saw this as an opportunity to further upgrade the facility since it would already be out of commission. Clearwing was further contracted for additional enhancements, which included installing a permanent L-Acoustics speaker system, surround sound for the film department, a new cinema projector and flown screen, digital signal processors (DSP), distribution throughout the space, equipment racks, and a Yamaha Rivage mixing console.
This strategic approach allowed for a comprehensive upgrade of the theatre's infrastructure, ensuring minimal disruption while maximizing the return on investment by addressing both immediate and future needs with professional expertise and foresight.
