Clearwing Transforms Pinnacle High School Theatre with State-of-the-Art Audio, Lighting, Video, and Rigging

Clearwing, a preferred Paradise Valley Unified School District partner, was contracted by Chasse Building to renovate Pinnacle High School, the third in the district to receive upgrades with Clearwing’s assistance. The goal was to modernize the venue with updated technology to align with North Canyon and Shadow Mountain High Schools.

To modernize the stage, the orchestra shell and counterweight rigging systems were removed, leaving only the T-track and running rail. Four counterweight sets were reinstalled for educational purposes, while twenty-four ETC Prodigy hoists were added for the remaining system. A Foundation controller was installed at the running rail, paired with a back-of-house monitor displaying a nearby camera’s stage view. A wired remote system was also added, enabling an operator to move around the stage while observing the battens as they lower.

To enhance the lighting capabilities, the existing ETC lighting system was upgraded by reusing the Sensor racks, adding one new Echo relay panel, and replacing Unison with Paradigm. A full network was installed to provide separate universes at each location. The fixture package was converted to fully LED, including dimmable house lights.

The audio and video systems received significant upgrades, with QSYS managing all sources and destinations. Touchscreen controls were installed onstage, in the lower control booth, and in the upper booth, which houses the racks, the existing Hitachi projector, and a new camera. The upper booth feeds into two side pods, which can be separated by air walls and controlled individually or from the upper booth. Monitors and speakers in the Lobby provide for late comers or pre-show announcements while speakers in back of house spaces provide for performers listening.  L-Acoustics A-series cabinets and subwoofers ensure even sound coverage across the space, including front rows and upper pod seating.  Christie projection, utilizing onboard edge-blending settings, fills the cyclorama for digital scenery.
